How it all began

The Arrangement has been delighting customers for over 45 years! It's a great place to shop for beautiful gifts, home decor, women's clothing and jewelry. The Arrangement is known for having the best greeting card selection in Portland.

Sue Mautz founded The Arrangement in 1980, transforming her early passion for flower arranging at Saturday Market into a beloved brick‑and‑mortar boutique on NE Fremont Street. Her shop quickly became known for its beautifully curated mix of her own floral designs and the work of local artists. After three years in her original space, Sue made the bold decision to purchase and renovate a 1924 gas station across the street. In its early days, the building housed The Arrangement alongside a coffee shop and a wallpaper store, but over time Sue expanded into the entire space, shaping it into the thriving, well‑loved lifestyle boutique that became a cornerstone of the Beaumont neighborhood.

In 2025, longtime store manager — and Sue’s daughter‑in‑law — Deena Spang purchased the business. With her keen eye for design and deep commitment to the community, Deena is carrying The Arrangement into its next chapter, ensuring the shop continues to reflect the creativity, care, and vision that Sue established. It’s a continuation of a legacy, guided by the same spirit that has made The Arrangement a neighborhood treasure for more than four decades.
