Alfresco is Best-o

August 13, 2019

We're so lucky here in the Pacific Northwest to enjoy beautiful Indian summers that can sometimes last clear until November. It allows us to get outside to enjoy the simple bounty of nature, without having to endure scorching temperatures and clouds of mosquitoes that mark summertime activities.

We get so busy with summer that is seems we have to wait until the Fall to slow down and relax into the season properly. A perfect way to do this is to have a picnic.  Gather some friends and family and pick one of the many lovely locations we're lucky to call our backyard. Next, you'll need some picnicking gear: a great backpack or basket will do the trick nicely. We have a selection of such items from Picnic at Ascot, a company specializing in helping you to create the perfect outdoor mealtime experience, whether your goal is romantic dinner for 2 or family reunion style mayhem-fun.

If you're going to be heading deeper into the woods and want a more compact option, they also make a backpack style picnic bag which is insulated to keep your food and beverages cold.

If you're looking to create a true gourmet alfresco experience, we can help with that too!

Wood or marble cheese boards are always available in a plethora of sizes and shapes to create your perfect cheese/charcuterie presentation.  Not to mention beautiful bread knives from Farmhouse Pottery and cheese knives and carving sets from Laguiole.

If you have the space and ambition, a Finex grill pan will do wonders for your food, whether its a cowboy steak or some lovely asparagus.

As far as setting your "table" we have a variety of picnic blankets and large multi-purpose towels to create a comfortable place to eat that feels rustic.

We've got non-breakable melamine plates to complete your picnic meal, and they're just so darn cute too.

A few more tips to make your day great:

1. If you're taking white wine, empty the bottle into a double-walled large water bottle or thermos to keep it cold all day!

2. Skip egg salad, or anything with too much mayo.

3. Wide mouth mason jars are great for salads!  Pour the dressing in the bottom and then just shake it up.

4. Keep it seasonal!  There's so much great fruit ripe right now, so make the most of the season!

We hope you'll take the time to picnic soon.  It's the stuff of memories.

Happiness to you and yours,

-The Arrangement
